Terms of Use

Hominin is a search and answer engine, with an AI assistant called Mira, run by Hominin LLC, 8 The Green, Suite B, Dover, Delaware 19901 ("we"). These terms apply to hominin.com and everything on it: search, Mira, accounts, saved pages, playlists and notes, reviews, uploads, business pages, the API and the tools. By using Hominin you agree to them. What we do with your data is in our Privacy notice, which is part of how Hominin works but not repeated here.
Your data in brief. Outside the EU, EEA and UK, search-data collection — the words of your searches, your IP address and a visitor ID stored in your browser, used to measure use and improve search — is on by default; turn it off in Settings, Privacy, or use Private mode. Within the EU, EEA and UK we collect nothing until you accept our cookie banner. Everything stays first-party: we do not sell your personal data or share it with third-party advertising or analytics services. The Privacy notice has the detail.
Who may use Hominin
Anyone may search without an account. Accounts, Mira chat history, voice recordings, reviews, business pages and the API are not offered to children under 13, and if we learn that one belongs to a child under 13 we close it and delete its data (see Children). If you are under the age at which you can agree to these terms where you live, use Hominin with a parent or guardian's permission.
Acceptable use
Use Hominin lawfully and in a way that doesn't harm others or the service. Do not:
- break the law, or use Hominin or Mira to help anyone commit fraud, steal credentials, deploy malware, break into systems or accounts you are not authorised to access, stalk, harass or expose someone's private information, exploit or sexualise children, or cause serious physical harm;
- try to get around Mira's safeguards, including by hiding instructions in pages, documents or files for her to read;
- overload, attack, probe or interfere with the service, or get around rate limits, access controls or blocks;
- scrape or copy Hominin at scale, or resell it, except through the API on its terms;
- use another person's account, or share your passkeys or recovery codes;
- post reviews, notes or uploads that are unlawful, infringing, deceptive, hateful, or that contain someone else's personal information;
- use Hominin's or Mira's output to build a competing search index or train a competing model, except as the API terms allow.
Your content
You keep ownership of what you put into Hominin: searches, questions, chats, notes, playlists, reviews, uploads and business photos. You give us only the permission each feature needs, for as long as it needs it:
- searches, questions, voice, pictures and documents you search with: to process them and return results and answers;
- chats, notes, playlists and saved items: to store them and show them back to you;
- reviews: to publish them beside the place, worldwide, until they are removed;
- business logos and photos: to review them and, once approved, show them publicly beside your business until you remove them.
Training is a separate use from answering you. We use your content to improve Mira as the Privacy notice describes: in the United States unless you turn it off, elsewhere only if you turn it on (Settings, Privacy), and never in Private mode or for a child's account. You are responsible for having the right to what you upload or post. If you believe something on Hominin infringes your rights, write to us.
Search results
Results, snippets, images and cards come from other websites and public data sources, which we do not control. They can be wrong, out of date or offensive, and links take you to sites with their own terms. Sponsored results are marked as such.
Mira
Mira is an AI. She is not a person and not a professional. She answers in chat, on a call by voice, about a page you are reading in the reader, and on the results page, from search results and from what she has learned.
- Accuracy. Her answers can be wrong, incomplete, out of date or cite a source that doesn't say what she claims. Check what matters with the sources and with a qualified person. She is not medical, legal, financial, safety or emergency advice; in an emergency, call your local emergency number.
- Reliance. You decide what to do with an answer. Don't rely on her alone for decisions about health, money, law, safety or anyone's rights.
- Actions. Mira searches and reads pages for you and does nothing else: she does not send messages, buy things, change settings or act on other services on your behalf. If we ever add a feature that lets her act for you, it will ask you before each action that matters, and you are responsible for what you authorise.
- Safeguards. Mira declines some requests, such as help with fraud, malware, breaking into systems, stalking, sexual exploitation or serious physical harm. She may sometimes decline something harmless; tell us through Feedback and we will look at it. Instructions written inside pages or files she reads are treated as content, not as orders.
- Voice. On a call your speech is turned into text to answer you; recordings are kept only if you ask, as the Privacy notice says.
- Generated text. You may use what Mira writes for you, subject to these terms and to the rights of others in anything she quotes. It may resemble what she writes for other people.
Accounts
Accounts are optional and use passkeys. Keep your device and recovery codes safe; anyone with them can use your account. Tell us if you think someone else has. You can delete your account at any time from the account menu, which deletes what the Privacy notice lists. We may suspend or close an account, remove content, or block access that breaks these terms, endangers others or the service, or that the law requires us to act on. Where we can, we will say why; to appeal, write to hello@hominin.com and a person will review it.
Other services
Hominin shows and links to content from other services, including YouTube, Twitch, Wikipedia and many websites, which are governed by their own terms. Hominin uses YouTube API Services: by using YouTube content on Hominin you agree to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service; see also the Google Privacy Policy.
Aviation information
NOTAMs and flight information are NOT for OPERATIONAL USE. They aren't for flight planning or navigation. Check an official source before flying.
Tools and how-tos
Calculators, how-it-worked cards and safety guides are general information for learning. Follow the manuals for your equipment and the rules where you live, and use a qualified professional when anything is damaged, dangerous or unfamiliar. You use them at your own risk.
No warranty; limits of liability
Hominin and Mira are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. To the extent the law allows, Hominin LLC is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for losses from relying on results or answers. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or your rights as a consumer where you live.
Changes
We may change Hominin and these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed; for a significant change we will also say so on the site. Continuing to use Hominin after a change means you accept it.
